TWICE’s Chaeyoung releases solo album and reflects on loneliness and emotional growth in new interview

Chaeyoung, a member of the K-pop group TWICE, released her solo album, LIL FANTASY Vol. 1, coinciding with the group’s 10th anniversary celebration. In an interview, the artist revealed that the project took two to three years to complete, although she only started working on it a year ago.
The songwriter emphasized that the album is a representation of her emotional and artistic growth. “I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to do with this album and what kind of music I wanted to create,” Chaeyoung stated. The album features nine tracks, including a bonus song exclusive to the physical version.
Chaeyoung has addressed themes of loneliness and friendship in her lyrics. The song “BF” reflects her experience of feeling isolated due to her intense touring routine. “I’m basically a homebody and an introvert,” she said, mentioning that the lack of contact with friends led her to question her relationships.
She has also collaborated with the Japanese duo Gliiico on tracks such as “AVOCADO” and “DOWNPOUR.” Chaeyoung expressed her admiration for the music and style of the group, whom she met during a visit to Japan.
The artist also participated in the soundtrack for the K-Pop film Demon Hunters, alongside her fellow members of TWICE. “It was an opportunity to challenge ourselves,” she commented on the experience. The film, which became an international success, helped promote K-pop to new audiences.
Chaeyoung, who has performed in packed stadiums, revealed that she still feels nervous when performing new songs. “When I sang ‘My Guitar’ for the first time, I could feel the atmosphere and enjoy the moment,” she said, emphasizing the importance of her songs to the audience.
The album LIL FANTASY Vol. 1 is a reflection of Chaeyoung’s journey, as she seeks to balance her identity as an idol and as a person. “I hope that by showing who I am, people can see the real me,” she concluded.
