NCT 127 is the second official sub-unit of South Korean boy group NCT formed by SM Entertainment. The sub-unit debuted in July 2016, consisting of its original seven-member lineup: Taeil, Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, Winwin, Mark, and Haechan, with the release of their first extended play NCT #127. The album was a commercial success upon its release, earning the sub-unit several nominations, and eventually earning them the title of Best New Group at several South Korean music awards in 2016.

Members Doyoung and Johnny were added to the sub-unit in December 2016, ahead of their upcoming EP Limitless in 2017. Jungwoo was then introduced as the sub-unit’s tenth and final member in September 2018, followed by the group’s debut studio album, Regular-Irregular, in late October 2018. However, the group’s lineup has undergone further changes since then. Winwin’s departure and Taeil’s expulsion in 2024 meant that the group currently has eight members: Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, Haechan.

They finally achieved breakthrough recognition in 2017 with “Cherry Bomb”, hailed as one of the group’s signature songs and musical identity, and explored further international success with the release of their first studio album and its lead single “Regular” in 2018. The unit also ventured into the Japanese music scene with a Japanese version of their second single “Limitless”, and released an EP and a studio album in 2019.

NCT 127 has continued to expand their promotion globally, having signed with Capitol Music Group and Caroline Distribution for a worldwide marketing and distribution deal with the group’s home label SM Entertainment in April 2019, followed by the release of We Are Superhuman and their second Korean album Neo Zone, the latter of which became their first top five on the Billboard 200 and subsequently the sub-unit’s first release to sell over one million copies in May 2020.
