Animated film continues to break records on streaming platforms

K-Pop has gone from being just a musical sensation to a cultural phenomenon that spans everything from our playlists to our screens. However, this time, the Koreans weren’t content with conquering our ears; they decided to invade our homes with demons, impeccable choreography, and a massive success that left even Netflix speechless.

It seems Netflix has discovered its magic formula: combining Korean idols, supernatural action, and a catchy soundtrack. KPop Demon Hunters, the film that pits three singers against demonic creatures amidst impeccable dance breaks, not only entered the global Top 10 but also chose to stay and grow.

According to the latest information from Forbes, the film tripled its views in its fifth week of release, an unprecedented phenomenon on the platform. Viewership increased from 9.2 million at its premiere to 25.8 million between July 14th and 20th. And no, it wasn’t just a passing fad: it already has 106.1 million views and is about to break the all-time record for English-language films on Netflix (137.3 million).

What makes this success even more interesting is its legacy beyond streaming. Thus, songs by the fictional K-Pop group Huntrix dominated the Billboard Top 100 charts, demonstrating that South Korea doesn’t do anything half-heartedly when it comes to creating a project.

KPop Demon Hunters chronicles the journey of Huntr/x, a K-pop girl group comprised of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. They are not only international celebrities, but also play the secret role of world protectors.

Beyond the glamour of the stage, they defend fans from supernatural dangers, battling their adversaries and antagonists, the Saja Boys.

The animated film combines action with a plot that explores friendship, trust, and the importance of staying true to one’s identity. With stunning visuals, well-choreographed action sequences, humor, a touch of fantasy, and a universal message of self-discovery, it’s clear why the film resonated with audiences.
